I haven’t blogged for ages – makes for a terribly bad blog! I basically had a hard year last year – I overtrained and I also picked up an injury when I started to up the running mileage during my triathlon training due to my special feeties. I have a longer second toe than first and extremely flat feet which had never been seen to – they weren’t painful and hadn’t up to that point hadn’t caused me any problems. Long story short it took around 2 and a bit months of hard work by me and a fantastic sports physio to sort out my very sore left adductor muscle and then he pointed me in the direction of a sports podiatrist who rocked my world by making a pair of innersoles sufficient to deal with the bung tootsies and try an give me an arch.
I was a little OCD as I was training for a HIM and doing the bike section of an IM as part of a team, and pushed myself as I didn’t want to let anyone down. By the time the IM was over I had had enough of running, swimming and cycling – all during this time my job situation was up in the air and not stable at all and I was getting colds and sick all the time so I wasn’t having all that much fun (loved the competing tho’). Then a new job fell into my lap which I grabbed with both hands but it meant a very long commute which added another layer of tired in. I basically stopped training other than a few runs as I knew I had another HM in October and once that was done I decided the old body needed a absolute break from training proper and other than commuting I did no exercise for the rest of 2014.
Due the job change and BH getting a new job closer to where I work we needed to find a new place to live – we also needed to finalise our indefinite leave to remain visa – all of which made me uneasy about committing to do triathlon in 2015 as I didn’t know where I would be living or how much time I would be able to commit to training. So I decided to focus on my running for 2015 as I could do that anywhere and it wouldn’t take up that much more time than I was able to give at that point. I committed to doing the Outlaw Ironman as part of a team (I would do the marathon) and started building up the running again with my limited time I had available.
Before we moved I realised the area we were moving to had a lot of lovely hills for me to train in I got excited about running again and started making plans about racing again. I made a plan of attack I wanted to do four days a week training but that hasn’t eventuated I settled on three runs (slow run, tempo run and long hilly run) and a Pilates/Yoga class. Im also contemplating a strength class too.
And I continued to run…
